It’s August and we are quickly approaching the inaugural San Luis Valley PrideFest! We are so excited to be able to share this historic event with you! Here is a bit about what’s going on:
Friday, August 24th –
One Colorado (an LGBTQ+ Advocacy Group) will be hosting a town hall meeting at the First United Methodist Church, 2005 Mullins Ave., Alamosa. This will take place at 5:30 p.m.
The Official PrideFest Kick-Off Party will follow at the Square Peg Brewerks (625 Main St., Alamosa). Local Southern Colorado musician Dave Mensch will be playing, and Square Peg will be donating $1.00 for every beer sold from 8:00 – 10:00 pm to SLV Pride! Come down and support a local business who is supporting us!
Saturday, August 25th –
We will be gathering at Trinidad State Junior College’s parking lot (4th St. & Alamosa Ave.) at 10:00 am in preparation for the “Rainbow Ramble” – our people-powered parade. There will be no motorized vehicles, except for personal accessibility devices (ALL of our community is welcome!). Come hang out, decorate your bike, wagon, yourself… and show some rainbow spirit! We will walk to Cole Park, going across Alamosa Ave. to Second Street, then down Second Street to Cole Park where we’ll do a “Victory Lap” and enter the park through the
rainbow arch!!
PrideFest officially begins at 11:00 a.m. in Cole Park! We will have a DJ, drag performances, live music, vendor and informational booths, food trucks, family activities, corn hole, the hydration station (you can bring your own water bottle and refill with filtered water), selfie stations, and more! Everyone is welcome!!
Capping our PrideFest weekend will be a one-“woman” show by nationally renowned female illusionist, Mrs. Eda Bagel. Mrs. Eda Bagel has been performing for over 20 years, and has raised over a million dollars for charity. Come see her show “Mrs. Eda Bagel: Of Vice & Men” at the ASU Xperimental Theater (Theater Building). Tickets are available at the Narrow Gauge Book Co-op, or online at www.slvpride.org/slv-pride-fest. Tickets are $20.00 and all proceeds go to SLV Pride. Doors open at 6:30 pm and show will begin at 7:00 pm. (This show is a cabaret style show, and is not vulgar. Mrs. Bagel wants everyone to know that she does NOT swear, but there is plenty of innuendo!)
We encourage everyone to participate as much as possible and support our sponsors who have graciously stepped up to support SLV Pride and PrideFest! If you happen to patronize one of our sponsors, thank them and be sure to mention SLV Pride! If your favorite businesses in town are not current sponsors, ask them if they would sponsor next year’s PrideFest! LGBTQ+ friendly dollars have impact in our community!
Our next regularly scheduled SLV Pride meeting is on Tuesday, August 20th (always 3rd Tuesdays of the month). We meet at the Narrow Gauge Book Co-op at 6:15 p.m. for a potluck meeting. This Tuesday we will also be working with volunteers for PrideFest weekend! We hope to see you all there!
